POPULAR CLADDING CHOICES AS CHOSEN BY OUR CLIENTS

Selecting the right cladding for a home involves far more than aesthetics – clients need to know that the material is durable, weathertight and, depending on preference, low maintenance. Cedar, Nuwall, Coloursteel, Brick and concrete have been popular cladding choices the past year for exactly these reasons.

NUWAL
Traditionally a commercial product, Nuwall has become a desirable aesthetic for our client’s choice for cladding the past year. As it proves itself on the New Zealand market there is no denying its durability, weather tightness, low maintenance and stunning architectural properties make it one of the more popular go to products chosen by both architect and builders in the current market. It is one of the more expensive cladding products on the market but its exceptional properties can last between 6-8 decades in harsh environments.

STACK BONDED BRICK
A brick veneer that has been stack bonded is a popular and more modern application of the brick product today. It is considerably stronger than a brick stretcher bond brick veneer and this bond visually emphasises the vertical aspect of the masonry.

CEDAR
Lightweight and textured, cedar is always a popular cladding choice for our clients. With so many profiles and colour options you can create such a different aesthetic with just one product.

Cedar is a product that does stand out at requiring more maintenance then other cladding profiles and this is often a reason it is avoided. Our builders are experts in ensuring the cedar is applied as to avoid its natural tendency to warp and move. A dark stained cedar home will require an extra coat of stain in the build process, with a recommendation to stain every few years.

CONCRETE
Cladding is now a popular choice by architects as it is a natural insulator and extremely hard wearing and adaptable. The choice of finishes is endless with the ability to create a highly individualised aesthetic with an enormous palette of colours and textures, and its permanence. Concrete cladding in all its forms- precast concrete panels; concrete blocks and concrete brick bring benefits over and above there known durability and stylish finish. It offers a high level of thermal and acoustic insulation properties and offers a strong resistance to rust and insects making it a more favourable option to metal and timber cladding systems. For multi-unit developments it also acts as a fire retardant meaning in most cases there is no need to the additional hassle of fire protection products however can be a potentially very costly choice depending on its application. For those environmentally conscious, you will be happy to know there is very little waste created in the production of this cladding choice.

COLOURSTEEL
Coloursteel has been a popular choice for our clients in recent builds as it continues to build its reputation as a cost effective and low maintenance solution for a wide range of environments and job types. With its different products, colours and profiles on offer there is something to suit all aesthetics.

As you can see there are a number of factors to consider when weighing up types of cladding and these are just five of the many cladding options available. Of course you are not limited to just one of these cladding types on your home and there are many reasons for combining your cladding types for aesthetics and cost factors. Maintenance is an important factor to keep in mind when selecting a cladding as well, for example a three storey home is going to require scaffold to maintain.
